A bit of news

Androgenetic alopecia is a hereditary disorder suffered by millions of people. Hair loss is due to the presence of an enzyme.

Androgenetic alopecia, the scientific name for baldness, is the main cause of hair loss.
This is an inherited condition, some hair is genetically programmed from birth to be sensitive to the hormone androgen in the body from puberty.

In particular, the responsibility for inducing the genetic mechanism that causes the hair loss is attributed to the absence of receptors dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the hair follicle.

The DHT is a derivative of testosterone, produced as a result of the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which when in contact with the follicle plays a harmful action: the miniature, until it completes atrophy and hence to the cessation of all productive activity .

The ability of receptors to bind to DHT is transmitted genetically, the demonstration is the fact that transplanted hair is not predisposed to balding areas first affected by androgenetic alopecia, the task pilifera is not changed.

To complicate the situation, DHT initiates an autoimmune reaction in the follicle, which undergoes involution: the immune system identifies as foreign object damage the follicle, and then tries to delete it.

The thinning of the hair usually begins between 15 and 40 years in both sexes, albeit much less evident in women may be more or less marked depending on factors of race, sex and genetic factors and age and various sites of the scalp.

Today in Italy the players involved are more than 11 million. The majority is certainly male with 80% of cases, but the remaining 20% are women, aged close to 50 years. For them, in addition to DHT, often the disorder is caused by two hormones: DHEA produced by the adrenal glands and androstenedione produced by the ovary and adrenal glands.

Many people to combat the 'imperfection' s Alopecia try all the medications, which we believe are taken during the initial phase of the problem and that is when we see the first suspect hair loss, hoping to get some results.

Others rely on miracle lotions, which at best can slow hair loss, but certainly not to regenerate roots now atrophied.

Others more daring and those who have more money to spend will be challenged to 'graft. L 'is nothing more than autograft removing hair follicles from areas of thicker head (usually behind the neck) and then be implanted in sparse areas.
Obviously this type of solution is only recommended to those who have to cover small areas of thinning, otherwise the result is not satisfactory.

So what 's to know before you attempt a graft are the following:

Method:

Are taken from the nape of the hair and grafted, one by one or in small groups, in areas to thicken. Local anesthesia.

Healing period:

Medication for 24 hours. Slight swelling and redness for 3-4 days. Shampoo after two days. The area of graft is visible about 10 days (the presence of scabs). Hair grafted are beginning to be visible after 5-6 months from 'intervention.

Duration of results:

The transplanted hair will follow the same fate as those in the region of sampling (neck). Generally permanent.

Complications more frequent:

The most common risks of autotransplantation of hair are visible scar in the area of collection, unrealistic expectations, infection, hematoma, skin microcystins. In the discussion with the surgeon should be included too few greater risks: deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, complications related to anesthesia, bleeding.

Cost:

Starting from 6,500 Euro.

Finally there is an alternative to autologous grafting of the so-called natural hair or synthetic, in which hair is implanted one by one in the scalp.
The downside of this system is that the hair not being provided with grafted roots are very delicate and they tend to come off easily, not to mention the natural process of rejection of the scalp, so it is very often forced to re-zone thinned, all of course leads to high costs.
